I’ve always loved portraying people. Each portrait feels personal in its own way, because of my emphasis on shading and how it carries the emotion. I like how contrast can sometimes tell its own story, almost more than the subject itself.
Still Lives
Don’t get me wrong, a still life is really just some objects on a table. But there’s nothing better than nailing it.
It doesn’t bring the same drama as drawing people, but that’s kind of the fun. You get to push contrast, light, and shape until the simplest things feel alive. Plus, let’s be real: you can’t severely mess up a bowl of fruit the way you can a face.
